Mary “Mimi” Sandmann, Environmental Photographer
“I hope to awe people with my photos to give them an enhanced appreciation of nature.”
Mimi started taking pictures with a new camera on her 8th birthday. Her daughter was her subject for many years, but as Megan grew, Mimi developed an interest in nature and photographing it. She and her husband Terry developed their own yard to a point where it was certified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by both the Ohio Div. of Wildlife and the National Wildlife Federation. At Akron U, Mimi attended a Digital Nature Photography Workshop with Ian Adams, a well published photographer. Her special interest in attracting, feeding and photographing bluebirds had led to several photos being used in an Ohio Bluebird Society publication. She has participated in Cornell U’s Great Backyard Bird Count for many years and had one of her bluebird photos displayed in their website photo gallery in 2005. February 2007 one of her Chickadee photos was picked as one of a small select sample from more than 4000 photos to be on their website in their 2007 Photo Gallery. Her photos have earned her many ribbons over the last decade in the Medina County Fair’s Amateur and Advanced Divisions. January and February 2007 Mimi had 3 photos in the Medina County Park Districts Nature Photo Exhibit. Her photo of a Red-tailed Hawk won 1st Place in the Wildlife category.
